Request an Interlibrary Loan
(if you already have an account)

UPDATE: Interlibrary loan requests may take longer to arrive than normal as some libraries have not yet returned to lending materials. Delivery times will improve as more libraries return to normal staff and service levels. Thank you for your patience.

If you can't find a title or author in our library catalogue, we can try to borrow it from another library. If the item was published within the last 6 months, please complete a Suggest a Purchase form, because they are too new to request from another library.

How can I sign up?

You can register for an Interlibrary Loan account online, or by visiting the Information Desk in the Adult Services Department. You must be a member of the library with a valid library card.

Request Interlibrary Loan account creation

How does it work?

Once you have an account you may place your own request or we can do it for you at the Information Desk, Adult Services Department. We will notify you by telephone or email that the item is ready for borrowing.

How long does it take?

A request can take about two to three weeks. Some requests may take longer depending on the location of the lending library and the availability of the title.

How long can I keep it?

Three weeks is the usual loan period.  The lending library decides the loan period and if renewals are possible.  For renewals, please contact us at least one week before the due date for your item.

How do I place my own request?

Once you your account is set up, follow these steps to place your own request:
  1. Search the library catalogue to make sure we do not own the item.
  2. Sign into the Interlibrary Loan system with your library card number and your password.
  3. Select Newmarket Public Library as the authentication service.
  4. Select standard or advanced search.
  5. Use SOLS Simcoe/York for your first search profile. (Each profile represents a group of Ontario libraries.)
  6. Search the author or title of the item you want. If it is not in the search results, change the search profile and search again.
  7. When you find what you want, select "get it" and then "request".

If you have any questions or need assistance please contact the Adult Services Department.
