Teens

Teens entering grades 7 through 12 are eligible to apply. TAG will meet once a month from October to June. The meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of every month, beginning on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Newmarket Library. Engage in your community, share your ideas and make new friends. 

What we're looking for:

• Ability to attend all meetings – one hour a month
• Active participation in TAG initiatives (i.e., Santa Letters)
• Provide feedback about the library’s teen collections and services
• Suggest ways the library can better serve teens

Teens and adults are invited to apply to be reading buddy mentors. Make a difference while working one-on-one with a child who requires extra reading support.  As a volunteer mentor, you will help build reading confidence in children and encourage literacy fundamentals through fun and games.

What we're looking for:

• Ability to commit to at least 2 hours a week for 10 weeks
• Good communication and listening skills
• Comfortable working with children

As a YA Pride Club Peer Leader, you’ll:

• Co‑host meetings (every second Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m.) in the library
• Lead icebreakers, crafts, discussions, and games
• Offer a confidential space for youth
• Share upcoming community-oriented special events (i.e, Pride Parade)

What we're looking for:

• You identify as LGBTQ2S+ or are a strong, informed ally
• Comfortable working with members ages 13 to 20
• Strong listening and facilitation skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect
• Enthusiasm for event planning and creating safe environments

Do you love chess? Are you willing to lead others in the game?  Teen volunteers in grades 7 to 12 are required to facilitate our weekly Chess for Kids program in the Library. This includes set-up, demonstrating strategies, and cleaning up.

What we're looking for:

• Commitment of at least two hours twice a month
• Understanding of chess
• Comfortable working with children
• Strong listening and facilitation skills
