The Place to Be
Every day, hundreds of people come through our doors. They are students, parents, and newcomers. Some are entrepreneurs; others need someplace warm. As the only free indoor gathering space in downtown Newmarket open seven days a week, we are a place to be, to belong, and to become.
Newmarket Library has not undergone a major renovation in over thirty years, and our space is beginning to show its age. We want to be a Main Street library that residents are proud of. Aside from a place to be, we want to become the place to be.
We need your help. We are raising $30,000 to support our Place to Be Campaign, which will transform our Main Floor into Newmarket's Downtown Community Living Room.
The Plan
In 2027, Newmarket Library will be replacing our Main Floor shelving to be lower and more accessible, also allowing in more natural light. We have set aside over $200,000 for this ambitious project. We see this as the perfect opportunity to also renovate and re-imagine the Main Floor. Specifically, we're imagining:
- A comfortable Community Living Room overlooking our northwest windows, offering inviting seating for reading, conversation, and connection;
- Refreshed program and event rooms with updated furnishings, improved amenities, and vibrant design features that inspire creativity and community engagement;
- New carpeting, signage, and display spaces throughout key public areas, creating a warm and welcoming experience for every visitor.
Help us reimagine our library, your donation writes our next chapter.
