Other Online Library Questions

Where is the Online Library?

Follow this link to go to the Online Library.

There is a link on the front page and in the Collections drop-down menu as well.

Why isn't my library card working?

  • Is your card expired? If you aren't sure, ask us to check for you. You will need to renew your account before using the online library.
  • Did you enter your library card number without spaces?
  • Make sure that Newmarket, ONTARIO is selected when choosing your library name.

I have more than one library card. Can I use them all with the online library?

  • Libby/Overdrive = no limits. Connect as many cards as you like.
  • Hoopla - you are limited to one library card at a time
  • Kanopy - you are limited to one library card at a time

Will this use my mobile data?

Once you have downloaded a title, you can enjoy it offline without using any mobile data or needing a wifi connection. We recommend using wifi to download your ebook/eaudiobook so it does not use your mobile data.

eAudiobooks are accessible with your library card and an internet connection. You could be on holidays in the middle of the ocean and still download a new eAudiobook if your library card is valid and you can connect to the internet.

Note: Kanopy videos cannot be downloaded and can only be streamed using a wifi or mobile data connection.

Can I renew my loans?

Libby/Overdrive lets you renew your loans shortly before they are due. From your loans page select the renew button under the title you'd like to renew. Choose an option for the length of the renewal, then select renew again. You will then see the new due date and options to open or download it.

Note: Any time left on your current lending period is canceled when you renew a title.

Hoopla and Kanopy do not offer renewals. Instead, simply re-borrow the title.

Are there overdue fines?

You will never get fines when you download or stream something from our online library. It will be automatically returned on the due date.
