NEWMARKET, Ontario, September 9, 2026– Beginning September 14, 2026, Newmarket Public Library will expand its operating hours to include Mondays, giving residents more time to visit, access and enjoy its free resources. The decision is based on user data and feedback and represents a significant step forward in serving the community.
"We are thrilled to be able to provide more access to the resources people rely on,” says the Library’s CEO Tracy Munusami. “Expanded hours have been under consideration for some time and we are finally able to make this a reality and provide an additional eight hours a week.”
Residents will now have more time to visit and enjoy the many free services available at a time when the cost of living continues to rise. With the arrival of Monday openings, the library will provide additional access to lifelong learning, technology, resources, and programs that allow people to explore, learn and connect.
“The library is a vital community hub and resource,” says Newmarket Mayor John Taylor. “Now open seven days a week, our residents and visitors have more options to access information and to engage in community activities.”
Based on data, the library will be open Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., which is currently the peak visitor hours. The decision to extend its hours confirms Newmarket Library’s commitment as an accessible community hub.
To celebrate the occasion, the Newmarket Citizens’ Band will be on-site to play some marching songs as the library opens its doors at 11a.m. on its first Monday, September 14. The library is also offering free donuts to the first 100 patrons courtesy of Tim Hortons.
