Everyone is welcome to join us for an engaging and thought-provoking evening exploring “Voices on Education: Community, Change and Civic Life" with Steve Paikin and Newmarket Mayor John Taylor.
Date: Wednesday, September 23
Time: 7 – 8:30 PM
Location: Pickering College, West Lake House, Robert Rourke Assembly Hall
Tickets: $15 per person, register here.
This community discussion brings together three respected voices with deep ties to Newmarket, public life and education. The conversation will also touch on timely issues, including the recent erosion of democratic norms and how this problem intersects with education and civic engagement.
Acclaimed journalist and author Steve Paikin will share insights drawn from his extensive experience covering the broader political and social landscape, offering his perspective on how educational norms have evolved—and where they may be headed. He will be joined by Mayor John Taylor, who will reflect on local priorities, community growth, and the role of education in shaping a thriving municipality. Both John and Steve will offer what gives them hope in these turbulent times. And they will likely be asked for their opinions on the hopes and dreams of the Blue Jays!
Guiding the conversation is Rex Taylor, a current library board member and CHOP FM 102.7 radio board member, a former Pickering College faculty member, and a dedicated community leader. As moderator, Rex will foster a lively, accessible dialogue that connects big ideas with real-world implications for students, families, and educators in our community. There will be an audience question-and-answer session followed by Steve Paikin book signing.
This evening is presented in partnership with Pickering College and the Newmarket Library.
