Volunteer in the community

Neighbourhood Network Discover ways to safely support our community, such as drawing pictures for seniors, delivering groceries and medicine, and donating goods and funds.

Volunteering in the library

Volunteering at the library is an excellent way to:

  • Earn high school community involvement hours
  • Develop leadership and communication skills
  • Explore career interests in education, literacy, and community service
  • Connect with new people and foster a welcoming space for all

If you are interested in volunteering at the library, please review the opportunities below, then complete the Volunteer Application Form. Your volunteer application will be valid for up to six months.

Only successful applicants will be contacted if an opening arises. A mandatory orientation session must be completed before starting any volunteer role.

Teen volunteer roles available at Newmarket Library include:

 Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

Teens entering grades 7 through 12 are eligible to apply. TAG will meet once a month from October to June. • Provide feedback about the library’s teen collections and services
  • Suggest ways the library can better serve teens

Visiting Library Services volunteer

For Newmarket residents who cannot leave their homes due to disability, the library's Visiting Library Service is a way to continue accessing our collection.

Community volunteers select, pick up and deliver books, magazines or movies to the homebound client's home. The volunteers also collect the library items from the homebound client's home and return them to the library.

There is an application process for both volunteers and clients who wish to receive Visiting Library service.  Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have a valid drivers license and obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
