Food, Shelter and Clothing

  • Newmarket Food Pantry Emergency food supply for 10-14 days for residents of Newmarket and East Gwillimbury. Call 905-895-6825 ext 120 to book appointment or book appointment online for food once a month.
  • Take-out meals available from Inn From the Cold and community partners.
  • Newmarket Drop-By Program to warm up, take a shower, access the Internet, and get lunch and snacks. Drop by between 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. 7 days a week at 17837 Yonge Street. (closed holidays) Call 647-512-8754 or email dropyby@innfromthecold.ca for more information.
  • Street Outreach van for access to food, clothing and shoes, sleeping bags, tents, tarps and blankets, needle exchange supplies. Information and referrals to shelters and other community support. Call 1-866-553-4053 between 2pm and 9pm 7 days a week to arrange a meeting place and time. 
  • Salvation Army - Northridge Church support with food, clothing, furniture, rent, energy assistance, recovery support and more. Call or visit website to request help 905-895-6276.
  • Inn From the Cold offers an overnight shelter year round. Service includes dinner, showers, clothing, laundry facilities, voicemail/internet services, social service workers and sleeping accommodations. The shelter serves those 16 years of age and older (minors welcome but Inn From the Cold must notify others). 510 Penrose St. Call 905-895-8889 or email info@innfromthecold.ca for more information.
  • Belinda's Place Drop-by support and services for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Call 289-366-4673 or text 905-955-7274 to book appointment.
  • Emergency housing for individuals and couples 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140, families with children 1-888-554-5525, men 1-888-554-5525, women 289-366-HOPE (4673).

Wellness and Crisis support

  • York Support Services crisis support, mental health support, coordination services for individuals with developmental disability call 1-866-257-9776, helpline line: 1-855-310-COPE (2673).  
  • Here to Help Line offers quick access to free phone counselling services for parents and caregivers and children. Available Mondays and Tuesdays, in-person or online between 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. call 905-503-9561. York Hills Walk-in Monday and Tuesday 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m at 402 Bloomington Road Aurora, One Stop Talk provincial service Monday to Friday 12 noon- 8:00 p.m., Saturday12 noon - 4:00 p.m.
  • COPE Community Crisis Response Service for persons who are having a mental health crisis, and their family or friends call or text 1-855-310-COPE (2673). Online Live text or chat 24 hours a day.
  • Kids Help Phone Free confidential help 24/7 online or call 1-800-668-6868 or text 686868.
  • LOFT - Transition from Hospital (ALC) Specialized housing and supports to help adults and seniors who no longer need hospital acute care safely and successfully return to living in the community.416-979-1994. 

Employment and legal help

  • ACCES Employment Register for online webinars for job seekers and call 647-827-1241 for help accessing Employment Ontario programs.
  • Jobskills Register for online workshops and events. One-on-one employment counselling for jobseekers and employers call 1-866-592-6278 or email info@jobskills.org.
  • Loft - Mental Health & Justice Supportive housing and one-on-one support to individuals with mental health, addiction and homelessness challenges who are in conflict with the criminal justice system. Supportive counselling, advocacy, information and referrals to services.416-979-1994.
  • JVC Youth Reach York Region Over the phone and online employment support for youth ages 15 to 30. 
  • Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) answers questions about your legal rights related to employment, housing, family and more.

Government assistance

  • York Support Services support with information for over 400 community agencies and services.  
  • Regional Municipality of York Programs and resources for people in abusive situations, people experiencing homelessness, supports for tenants and landlords, as well as persons with disabilities, caregivers, seniors and newcomers. Call Access York 1-877-464-9675 Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or dial 2-1-1 24 hours a day.
  • Ontario Emergency Assistance Apply online or call 1-877-464-9675 for short term financial help to pay for food and housing.
