The library is a community resource for business information. We have information online and in print to help you with business and employment research. We also have room rentals for promotional events, business meetings, workshops or seminars.

Library resources

You will need a valid Newmarket library card to use these online library resources. For more information visit membership and borrowing.

Small Business Reference Center

Find up-to-date articles and books on many areas of business management. Small Business Reference Center contains nearly 400 full-text periodicals and over 450 full-text reference books.

Gale Courses

Start an interactive, teacher-led, online class through Gale Courses. There are hundreds of courses starting every month on dozens of topics. All Gale courses are 24 hours long and take 6 weeks to complete. If you pass a final exam you are issued a Certificate of Completion. Take as many as you want. All courses are free to library members.

Room rentals

We have rooms that can be rented for promotional events, business meetings, workshops, seminars, parties or homeschooling meetings. There are different sizes available for different needs. Check out our rooms for rent.

Local resources

Newmarket Chamber of Commerce

With over 700 members, the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce encourages new and existing businesses in the community, and offers networking and learning opportunities. 

York Region Business Directory

The Region of York has created York Maps that has thousands of listings of businesses in the region and includes an interactive map.

York Small Business Enterprise Centre

Located in Newmarket, the York Small Business Enterprise Centre serves small businesses in the northern six York Region municipalities: Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Newmarket and Whitchurch-Stouffville. They focus on providing support to both new startups and existing small businesses in their communities.

Federal Government Programs and Resources

Canada Small Business Financing Program

The Canada Small Business Financing Program makes it easier for small businesses to get loans from financial institutions by sharing the risk with lenders.  Up to a maximum of $1,000,000 for any one borrower, of which no more than $350,000 can be used for purchasing leasehold improvements or improving leased property and purchasing or improving new or used equipment. Financial institutions deliver the program and are solely responsible for approving the loan. For more information download their PDF pamphlet or find a lender near you.

Government of Canada Business Benefits Finder

The Government of Canada has introduced many COVID-19 supports to help businesses weather the storm. To get a tailored list of the ones that fit your business situation or to discover other federal, provincial and territorial programs and services designed to help Canadian businesses grow, try the interactive business benefits finder. You can also sign up for the notification feature to receive emails when there are changes to your favourite programs, when application deadlines are approaching, or when a new program that meets your needs is introduced.
