Space Spectacular launching fun at the Library!

Mad Science show

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...blast off for lots of fun at Newmarket Library’s end of summer Space Spectacular Wed., Aug. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. We’re celebrating the end of our summer reading clubs with a day of fun for everyone. Drop in for free shows by Mad Science, a Lego build a rocket contest, a space-themed scavenger hunt, and join a group effort to create a giant Perler bead space scene. With crafts, light refreshments, and more.

Mad Science: Up, Up and Away: Free shows
Mad Science, a company specializing in shows that present interactive, fun learning experiences for children and families, will demonstrate the principles of air pressure, with floating ping pong balls, a hot air balloon, and a finale that’s a real blast! Ideal for children 6 years and over and families. No registration required. Maximum 40 participants/children per show.

Two times: 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. & 2:30 - 3:15 p.m.
Ages: 6 years and up
Location: Multipurpose Room

Build a Rocket With Lego Contest
Let your creativity take off when you participate in our build a rocket using Lego contest for a chance to win a prize.


Create a Space Bookmark Contest
Enter our contest to create a space-themed bookmark for a chance to win a prize.

Contribute to A Giant Perler Bead Space Scene
Join others and head into the Beadiverse! Discover the fun of beading while working with a group to create a giant space scene using Perler beads.

Hands-On Space Crafting
Create some cool crafts: an astronaut in space, a handprint alien, a space helmet mask, and a giant space scene with Velcro items.

Scavenger Hunt
Explore the far reaches of space, Library space that is, as you search for space-themed items hidden throughout the Library.

Build With Snap Circuits
Use Snap Circuts to create electrical circuits to power a small light or fan.

Winners Announced In Summer Reading Club Prize Draws
We’ll be picking the names of the lucky winners in our Grand Prize draws for each reading club: the TD Summer Reading Clubs for kids 0 to 2, 3 to 7 and 8 to 12 years old, and the Teen Summer Reading Club for teens 13 and over.

Door Prizes
There will be two draws for $50 gift certificates generously donated by Upper Canada Mall.

Light refreshments Included!

Space, the final frontier for fun launches on Wed., August 21 at Newmarket Library from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., everyone welcome!

The library is open during its regular hours Tuesday to Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
