Hang on to that broken item! The Repair Café is back at the library this month, with skilled volunteers ready to help you repair small appliances, jewelry, toys, and more. Children’s author Nadia L. Hohn will host a special online event for young children in Kindergarten to Grade 2, celebrating stories and storytellers. Job seekers can meet hiring managers at ACCES Employment’s free multi-sector job fair at the library. Plus, our regular drop-in children’s storytimes, Film Fridays matiness, YorkCinemania TIFF presentation, and more.
Get ready for outdoor yard work with The Lendery
As the weather gets better, NPL’s The Lendery has tools to help you with those outdoor chores. A lopper for pruning trees, an electric power washer to clean patios and decks, and a cordless grass trimmer. Plus a telescopic weed remover that helps you avoid kneeling while weeding. Get ready for the return of the Repair Café in collaboration with NewMakeIt and York Region. Volunteers will be on hand using their skills to fix small appliances, jewelry, toys, clothing, and more. York Cinemania
York Cinemania is back with a new movie every month! Presented by Newmarket Public Library and East Gwillimbury Public Library, York Cinemania brings independent and award-winning TIFF films to audiences in northern York Region showing at SilverCity Cinemas Newmarket. April’s Film: Riceboy Sleeps (2022)
In the 1990s, young widow So-young moves with her son Dong-hyun from South Korea to Canada, where they must learn to adapt to their new surroundings. Mother and son experience different levels of casual racism at work and school, make unexpected alliances with co-workers and classmates, and slowly grow apart as they define themselves in a new Canadian context. Celebrate Earth Day with some films from the National Film Board of Canada. Free tree sapling and butterfly seed packages will be provided by the York Region Greening Strategy to all attendees.

Celebrating stories and storytellers with Nadia L. Hohn
Award-winning children’s book author Nadia L. Hohn will read from one of her popular books, talk about what it’s like to write, and take part in a Q&A. Nadia is a multilingual author of several books for young people. Her first picture book, Malaika’s Costume was the 2021 TD Grade One Book Giveaway and featured as a float in the 117th Original Santa Claus Parade. Presented in collaboration with York, Durham and Peel Libraries. This program is presented as part of the Ancestral Voices: Belonging and Identity in Canada series. Discover our shared histories, our unique lived experiences, and the past, present, and future of own-voices storytelling in this conversation series hosted by Kim Wheatley and Maxine Gordon Palomino.

NPL’s Online Cookbook Club
Let’s get cooking! Here’s a club for those who enjoy the culinary arts. At our monthly online meetings, we’ll show each other the dish we’ve created (this can be a photo if it’s already been consumed), and chat about food, recipes and more.
