Sunny days put a smile on your face, and so will all the great events at the Library this summer. There’s the TD Summer Reading Club Storywalk, a fun time for families that combines reading and exploring downtown Newmarket. Chris Hadfield is our SuperSTAR Storyteller for a special live online viewing party. Adult book lovers can take our summer reading challenge for a chance to win prizes, and fans of magical fantasy can enjoy our Harry Potter Movie Marathon. Plus concerts with popular children’s entertainer Russ, and much more!

NPL’s sock drive for the LOFT Crosslinks Street Outreach Van
As a tie-in to NPL’s Harry Potter Movie Marathon in July, we’re holding a sock drive to benefit the LOFT Crosslinks Street Outreach Van. Drop off a new pair of socks at the Library’s Customer Service Desk on the main floor from June 21 to July 29, 2022. For each pair of socks donated you’ll receive a ballot for a prize draw.

Storywalk is a fun reading experience for children and families
NPL and the Newmarket Downtown BIA invite families to a TD Summer Reading Club StorywalkÒ in July to read I Am Scary by Elise Gravel. Ask for a map at NPL from Customer Service or the Children’s and Adult Services information desks. Then stroll along Main Street reading the story page by page in the windows of participating downtown businesses. Scan a QR code on each page to hear the story. Finish the walk at the Library and enter a ballot in Children’s Services for a chance to win passes for a VR gaming experience at Virtual Sting in the Upper Canada Mall. TD Summer Reading Club 2022
It’s a summer tradition: the TD Summer Reading Club for kids 3 to 5 and 6 to 12 is back! This summer explore magical worlds where creatures of fantasy roam and adventure is around every corner. Through books, programs and conversations kids can enjoy the world of once upon a time… by discovering different myths and legends of the world.
Participants log the books they read, earn badges, and will receive a certificate for participating. They’ll also get a rewards package at the end of the summer when the club ends. Prize draws will also take place near the end of summer. Children’s Services have organized several summer reading club events for participants (find them under ‘Events’ on the registration webpage).

Singalong with RUSS Concert Series

Clay Workshop with Cathy Gifford: Fairy/Hobbit House
Cathy will show you how to create this wonderful clay house and paint it. It will look great displayed in your home, or outside in the garden where the garden gnomes might take a liking to it. Cathy will make sure your house is made safe for outdoor weather, and available for pickup at NPL approximately two weeks after the program.

Teen Summer Reading Club 2022
This summer dive into great reading with the Library’s Teen Summer Reading Club. It works this way: the more books you read, the more points you accumulate toward a certificate of completion when the club ends on August 23. You’ll also be eligible for a prize draw at the end of the summer. Register through READsquared. Look for the TD SRC button on the NPL website beginning June 18. If you signed up for a reading program before you can use the same account.
Registration for the Teen Summer Reading Club 2022 will be online through READsquared and will begin Saturday, June 18.
