get a library card

All persons who live, work, attend school, or own property in York Region are entitled to a free Library card.

 

Additionally, please remember...

 

  • Proof of name and current address is required to obtain a card. Proof of name and current address may be the same document if the identification has a photograph. Otherwise, 2 documents are required. Proof of address can be your valid Ontario Driver's Licence, Ontario Photo Card, Ontario Motor Vehicle Permit, Property Tax Bill, Age of Majority Card, Old Age Security Card, etc. Proof of name can be your Birth Certificate, valid Ontario Driver's Licence, Passport, Social Insurance Number, Student ID Card, etc.

  • Persons under 14 require a parent's signature and the parent must be present when the child receives the card.
  • A person 14 and over must show ID and sign the card upon registration unless unable to do so due to a disability.

Register online

You can register online or in person on our main floor's Circulation desk. To register online be sure to agree to our terms and to have identification with you when you pick up your card.

Registration for Online Access Only:

To register for access to online e-resources only, you can e-mail the library at circulation@newmarketpl.ca or call 905-953-5110. You will be required to give your name and current address but not required to show proof. You can then convert the card to full access at any time by visiting the library with proof of name and address.
