Newmarket Public Library

The library maintains both a local history and a Canadiana collection, which includes resources for the genealogist, historian, student and history buff. We have excellent print, in-library collections, and online resources including:

• Microfilmed newspapers from 1852 until the present are available in the library. We provide public access to several microfilm readers and a digital microfilm scanner. Ask at the Adult Services Information Desk for assistance.

• Newmarket Digital Newspaper Project is an online collection of searchable newspapers printed in Newmarket from 1852-1861, 1874-1882, 1930-1950 and some coverage of 1960.

• History of the Town of Newmarket by Ethel Wilson Trewhel is available in our local history section.

• Ancestry.ca (In Library Use Only) Ancestry is the world's most popular online genealogy resource.

• The Newmarket History Hound is a new online blog from members of the Newmarket Historical Society.

If the library does not have specific books or microfilm, materials held at both the national and provincial archives are available through InterLoan interlibrary loan.
